Why does everyone have to be a “Member”?
Commercial zoning requirements kick in when more than 10% of the products sold are NOT farm based. Our “Conditional Use Permit” from the Calumet County Board was approved as a “Members Only” operation from the start, and we need to fulfill our requirements to them.
- Commercial zoning would require bathrooms (sewer/septic) and running water.
- Commercial zoning would have parking requirements/restrictions.
- Commercial zoning would play havoc on our property taxes.
- Commercial zoning would have specific handicap requirements.
On the plus side, a “Members Only” store will allow us certain freedoms which we will be exploring in greater detail in the future.
We certainly hope this is not a major inconvenience for you and that you understand why we have to go this way.
We sincerely thank-you for your business and commitment to organic agriculture!
Here's what the association membership agreement looks like. This must be filled-out at the store before the purchase of any products.
